Step 1: Analyze your products or services. List all your product types and every conceivable service—these are your FEATURES.

Step 2: Translate these features into benefits for your target audience. You must sell the BENEFIT, not the product or features.

Step 3: Develop a HEADLINE that will attract attention to your ad. Don’t be afraid to use humor. . .it catches people’s attention very well.

Step 4:   Once you have stopped your audience with your headline you need to sell them with the BODY of your ad by listing the benefits your headline alludes to. Use short, terse sentences—no wasted words. Keep it simple, lean and direct. Take the time to make a number of drafts.

Step 5:  The final part of your ad should be the CALL TO ACTION. Tell your reader plainly what you want them to do. Ask for their business for example, “stop by, come in, call today or use this coupon.” This is usually best placed at the bottom of the ad.
